The Definition Of A Hero

A hero is someone who is strong, intelligent, handsome, and brave. But there are some qualities that are overlooked like courage, honesty, unselfishness, and the will. Some heroes are just for saving the life of many people. There is another type of hero that is not most likely known of, a hero who have honor. This honor allows every hero actions to win the respect of all of his peers. Heroes like Achilles give up their lives to gain the respect of their comrades. Courage and physical strength are the two most important characteristics on the story of Iliad which Achilles possesses that's why Achilles is the better hero. Achilles is the strongest mortal alive because of his parent thetis. No mortal can compare to him in physical ability. Strength is one the most desirable characteristics in the novel thus it makes Achilles the greatest.

Achilles is also the better of the two fighters. Achilles fits this description perfectly. Hector, cannot compare to Achilles in strength. The most important difference between Achilles and Hector is that Achilles fights to achieve glory, while Hector fights to prevent embarrassment that may happen to him.

The main theme of the Iliad is the anger of Achilles, the results of his anger and the victories they gain on his anger's turning from Agamemnon to Hector after Patroclus's death. In this I think that one hero who stands out in the Iliad, is definitely Achilles. There are a lot of heroic characters in the Iliad, really, but the first and foremost is Achilles and the second is probably Hector.
